262 – The Poet’s Lament

Poem number 262
.
The Poet’s Lament
.
A poem is organic
It grows from verbal shit
Just turn the soil and out it comes
A thing of charm, and wit.
.
A poem is organic
There’s no standard size or theme
Sometimes long and sometimes short
Some sour, some dipped in cream.
.
A poem is organic
Which is why it’s just not fair:
It costs ten pence to buy an ode,
A pound to buy a pear.
.
A poem is organic
And quite soon there’ll be no more
‘Cause it’s hard to grow organics
When you can’t afford manure.
